JIGSAW enthusiasts from across the world fitted in just nicely when they travelled to Ramsbottom.

More than 350 people visited St Paul’s Church, in Bridge Street, from Thursday (September 10) to Sunday (September 13) to browse a large array of jigsaws.

Alan Lumsden, who helped organise the jigsaw festival said: “As a community event and fundraiser, the festival was a big success in all the ways we had hoped.

“We're so grateful to everyone who donated or assembled puzzles and to everyone who volunteered to work at the event itself.

“We received puzzles from people in their 80s through to schoolchildren and from across Bury, Rossendale and East Lancashire generally. We must have had around 1,000 puzzles in the end.

“We were absolutely amazed at the level of enthusiasm we encountered.

“There were around 60 volunteers in shifts working as stewards, sales staff and in the cafe and kitchen.

“It was a joint venture between St Paul's and Edenfield Parish Church and a good example of the two churches coming together.”

A visitors’ book left out for people to leave any feedback included comments from people from Canada and Belgium.

The event raised about £3,000 for the two parishes, although no final total is yet known.
