A SIX-year-old Ramsbottom boy who suffers from a rare undiagnosed genetic condition is preparing to ride a bike for the first time in his life.

His parents, Natalie and Peter, launched a £1,700 quest in a bid to raise enough cash to buy Alfie Furnival a specially-adapted trike.

The family are now delighted after reaching their target following a golf tournament at Lowes Park Golf Club in Bury, and a fundraising event at the Rose and Crown in Ramsbottom on September 20.

Natalie, of Lime Grove, said: “It was a great start to the fundraising day with 10 companies sponsoring teams which raised £400 before they teed off. There were around 20 golfers playing which added another £200 to the fund.

“The afternoon was a great success with tombola, raffle and an auction of signed football tops, facepainting, karaoke and visits from Elsa and SpongeBob.

“Alfie’s special trike has now been ordered and he should get to ride it for the first time in around four weeks’ time.

“Ramsbottom Peel Lions have also offered to buy us a secured shed to keep the bike in.

“Me and Peter and of course Alfie would like to thank Lowes park Golf Club, Walmsley Carpets and all the companies who sponsored and all the golfers who turned up that morning.

“We would also like to thank Julie and David at the Rose and Crown for their hospitality that day and everyone who helped us reach our target. We’re delighted.”
