A FATHER inspired by his wife’s strength to cope with her disease has completed almost 300 miles of cycling for charity.

Marcus Hurst, aged 44, has raised £452 for Arthritis Research UK, the charity that has helped his wife, Jane, aged 43.

The dad-of-two took on four cycle rides throughout the summer, almost doubling his fundraising target of £250.

Marcus, of Silvermere Street, Ramsbottom, said: “I do something every year to raise money for charity.

“I’ve done a bike ride from Paris to Yorkshire in the past to raise money for Help for Heroes but this year decided to support my wife.

“There are more people with arthritis than cancer but they do not get as much support so I think it’s important to highlight the importance of Arthritis UK’s research.

"Jane works for Six Town Housing, who are very supportive of her and she takes a lot of medication to try to control the disease."

Marcus, who works as a police control room supervisor, has cycled 269 miles by completing the Great Manchester Ride in June, a Manchester to Blackpool ride in July, The Reg Harris Cyclosportive in August and the Yorkshire Selby cycle.
