A FORMER member of an amateur dramatic society has taken to the big screen alongside a handful of Hollywood stars.

David Hinde, who lived in Fernview Drive, Holcombe Brook for 10 years before moving to Yorkshire in 1989, features in the opening scene of the trailer for the new Dad's Army film, which is set to hit the screens in February.

Bosses at Universal Pictures chose Bridlington Old Town as the location for the fictional town of Walmington-on-Sea and the 59-year-old, who now lives in Bridlington, was asked to play the town crier, leading the St George’s Day Parade.

David, who lives with his partner Ann, said: “It was absolutely fabulous when I was asked.

“It must have been great for the producers to choose the location then find out they had a town crier living on the doorstep.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the trailer, I sat and watched it with Ann and just went wow.

“It’s wonderful and I’m so proud to have played such a prominent part.

“I had so much responsibility leading the parade and really had to set the pace.”

The father-of-four appears with celebrities including Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon, Toby Jones, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The film will be in cinemas on February 5 marking a poignant day for David as it falls on the 88th birthday of his late father Cyril, who died in April.

David, who is chairman of the Bridlington Old Town Association and holds the record for the world’s loudest town cry, said: “My father was so proud of me for being a part of the film.

“I really think fate meant for this to happen and for me to be gathering with friends and family to watch it on that special date.

“I’m proud to be in the film and I really think it’s going to be a big hit when it’s released.

“The film will become a part of the town’s legacy – it’s fantastic.”
