RESIDENTS in Ramsbottom are gearing up for winter and have been given the authority to close a notoriously dangerous road.

Rawsons Rake in Ramsbottom can become impassable in severe weather due to its gradient but now residents have been equipped with road closure signs and cones to close the road.

A group of chosen residents will be able to call the council to ask officials for permission to put out any signs or cones before closing the road for safety reasons.

Dr Falmai Binns, of Lumb Carr Road, Holcombe said: “It can be an extremely dangerous road in snowy and icy conditions.

“We’ve had a grit box replaced and the council has agreed to grit the road before any severe weather hits so this will help to keep the road as safe as possible.”
