AN entrepreneur who creates candles from the comfort of her home received a boost in business after a mention in a national newspaper.

Laura Morris, who crafts her creations at her home-based workshop, had her company, Pur Candle, listed in the top 15 of The Independent’s best festive scented candles.

And since the debut, Mrs Morris, who lives with husband Andrew, an accountant and their two children in Carr Bank Drive, Ramsbottom, says the interest in her candles has rocketed.

“A friend asked me to send a sample into the paper and I didn’t actually realise I would get a mention.

“I thought I’ll believe it when I see it. Once it was in the paper and online I shared it across social media, on my Twitter and Instagram accounts and my sister plastered the link all over Facebook,” said Mrs Morris, mother to Samuel, aged six, and 17-month-old Henry.

“All my family and friends saw it and Christmas turned out to be unbelievably busy.

“I’ve just about recovered from the festive period and started to restock, but it takes time since I do everything by hand.”

The cinnamon, ginger and orange scented candle, priced at £15 and packaged in an eco-friendly box, was described as turning homes into winter log cabins.

Mrs Morris, who started her business three years ago selling candles at farmers markets in Ramsbottom and Helmshore, now has six stockists across the North West.

She said: “Everything I do is handmade from mixing the wax to packaging and polishing the glass containers.

“I get some help from a friend who comes round to fix up the boxes. It’s organically growing and soon we’ll be turning the garage into my workshop as the business gets bigger.

“I started selling online just before Christmas and that’s been amazing, so many people have been buying through the website.”
