ACCORDING to local councillors, a number of ‘irresponsible’ dog owners living in a Tottington estate have no regard for where they live.

Tottington councillors believe certain dog owners are letting down Boothway estate, after receiving complaints of the excessive amount of dog fouling on the footpaths.

Cllr Greg Keeley said: “We decided to lead by example and undertake a clean-up.

“It was a very unpleasant experience and one we don't wish to repeat.

“We are asking residents to report their neighbours who do not pick up after their dogs. With the right intelligence and surveillance we hope heavy fines will follow.”

Cllr Gartside added: "The council have this week supplied new dog bins in Boothway but yet we still picked up lots of bags of faeces which incredibly had been thrown on the pavement".

Cllr Yvonne Wright said: “Unfortunately many residents do not clean their own front pavements any more as was once the norm, we have led by example and undertaken a disgusting task, cleaning up the streets.

“For the sake of the majority of residents and children of the estate we ask residents to be extra vigilant and report any dog owners committing this offence and ring the council on 0161 253 6136.

“With reduced budgets, the alternative is unfortunately to clean up outside your own home as we have done.”
