A RAMSBOTTOM man has been recognised for his hard work and long service for the Royal British Legion.

Ramsbottom branch chairman and poppy appeal organiser, Colin Grundy, was awarded a County Certificate of Appreciation by county president, Brigadier Robertson, for his continued efforts and long service to the Royal British Legion and the poppy appeal.

Mr Grundy, who has served as chairman for 10 years and poppy appeal organiser for 20 years, was awarded the certificate at the recent Royal British Legion Lancashire County Conference, which was held in Ulverston, in Cumbria.

He said: “It was a shock to be awarded, you don’t expect things like this to happen to yourself.

“It’s nice to be recognised for the work you’re doing.”

Ramsbottom’s 2015 poppy appeal reached a fundraising record after collecting £19,443.

The Aldi store based in Ramsbottom was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ramsbottom branch for its contribution of £3,627 raised in store during last year’s appeal.
