MORE than 500 pupils competed for trophies at this year’s Ramsbottom Music Festival.
The primary school event took place at Woodhey High School earlier this month.
Members of the public were entertained by Hazlehurst Primary School Brass Band, Bury Grammar School Recorder Club, and Choirs from St Marie’s, St Bernadette's, Bury Catholic Preparatory, and both Bury Grammar Girls and Boys Schools.
Throughout the rest of the weekend, Greenmount Primary School hosted an evening of song, ensembles, solo Instrumentalists, trios, quartets and quintets playing a variety of instruments such as piano, guitar, electronic keyboard, strings, woodwind and brass.
Vocal adjudicator, Angela Rowley, from the British and International Federation of Festivals commented that the standard was exceptionally high.
A spokesman for the festival said: “In the under 11 Light Vocal Class the standard was so high that, for the first time in her career, she awarded a distinction to every competitor in a class.
“Angela complimented the singing teachers in the borough.”
