A WOMAN from Ramsbottom will take on the London Marathon for a charity project in her home town.

Carolyn Storey, aged 33, who grew up in Holcombe Brook and now lives in London working as a languages translator, is preparing to run the marathon on April 24 to raise funds for Ramsbottom War Memorial Project.

She hopes to raise cash in support of the new memorial, which will be built in the gardens outside St Paul’s Church, in Ramsbottom, to more than 500 service personnel killed in conflict, from the town and surrounding villages.

Carolyn said: “After five months of training, almost 500 miles run, more blisters than I can count and enough mud to last a lifetime, race day is almost here.

“On April 24 I will join 38,000 others to run the 26.2 miles around the streets of London.

“The London Marathon is the largest annual one day fundraising event in the world, I am honoured to be taking part and pleased to be running to support a local cause.

“Whatever you can donate, no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated by the dedicated team behind this project and will motivate me to complete the last few weeks of training and spur me on when the going gets tough on race day.”
