RAMSBOTTOM festival goers are being encouraged to camp to get the real festival experience.

This year's festival is running from September 16 to 18 at Ramsbottom Cricket Club.

Camping is a big part of the festival experience at events around the globe and it's no difference in Ramsbottom.

The official Ramsbottom Festival campsite is just a short walk down the Irwell Sculpture Trail with free travel to and from the festival.

It's set in green farmland with toilets, water and showering facilities available.

There's room for standard tents, large tents and small camper vans.

Front man of The Teardrop Explodes, Julian Cope, who is joining headliners Public Service Broadcasting n the Friday Night revealed why they're playing the festival.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music he revealed that Rammy was the only festival he was playing this summer.

He said: "I thought I was only going to play at one festival so it would be at a place that has a good reputation for being contained and caring."

On his set he said: "I've written my best pop song in years which I’m attempting to do on the mellotron. It's not really a love story, it's sort of a paranoia song called 'Your Facebook, My Laptop' and the chorus goes 'Social media is killing me I'll have to change my history.'

He went on to say: "I've just got to keep my metaphor current and I just thought its such an obvious lyric I'm going to have to write it down and it's going to have to be deadly poppy."

Having enjoyed a 30 year career in the rock business, Julian has released over 20 solo albums.

Also on the bill for Friday are Slow Readers Club, Liines, Larkins and headliners Public Service Broadcasting amongst many others.
