A 14-YEAR-OLD from Tottington High School has been nominated for a national award in recognition of his exceptional fundraising.

Lucas Culshaw has been nominated for a JustGiving Award by Springhill Hospice, Rochdale, after he raised over £2,000 for the charity.

The hospice nominated him for the award, which congratulates outstanding people, charities and teams who have done incredible things on JustGiving over the past year.

Lucas arranged a charity football match in memory of his uncle John Frain, who died last year, having spent time in the hospice.

The charity match was a great success and Lucas managed to secure a kit sponsor, match day sponsor, match trophy and sorted donations for the raffle and food. All the planning and preparation came together on a sunny afternoon in July at the Mayfield Sports Centre in Rochdale, who supported the event by giving the facilities for free.

The teenager raised £2,470 for the charity with his event.

Barbara Lloyd, from Springhill Hospice, said: “Lucas led from the front, every step of the way, with his event. For a young man he has shown real qualities of leadership and organisation and I’m sure he will go on to great things in the future. He really deserves to be recognised through the Just Giving Awards in the Under 18s category.”

She added: “We would like to thank the players, all the many supporters who turned out to watch the game on the day, and Lucas’s friends, family, sponsors and schoolmates who helped in so many ways to make it a success.

“Well done especially to Lucas for his absolutely fantastic achievement. We are all very proud of him.”

Nominations are currently open for the Just Giving Awards and people can nominate their winner on www.justgiving.com.
