THE people of Ramsbottom raised more than £16,000 during this year’s Poppy Appeal.

The Royal British Legion Ramsbottom Branch has thanked the people of the town and the surrounding areas for their efforts in making it another successful year.

A spokesman said: “We would like to thank everyone for all their efforts and kind generosity throughout the annual appeal.

“The local supermarkets in particular were a great help and support in allowing our Poppy Appeal collections to take place inside their stores, thank you to all of them for supporting us as do every year.”

A certificate of thanks was given to staff from Morrisons who had supported the cause.

It has been a successful year for both the Royal British Legion and the Ramsbottom War Memorial Project.

The project has raised more than half of their £50,000 target.

After a remarkable year of fundraising they have raised more than £26,000.

The project is working towards building a new memorial in the Memorial Gardens in the town which will be engraved with the names of all the people in the town who served in both World Wars.
