A SUMMER picnic in the park will celebrate unity in the community.

The Nuttall Park party on June 18 is part of the Great Get Together, a weekend of events taking place nationally, inspired by the words of Jo Cox, the Yorkshire MP murdered in her constituency in June last year, and the idea of her husband Brendan.

The Ramsbottom event welcomes residents and friends from communities across Bury to join the party, based on a Mad Hatter’s tea party theme.

Already planned for the day are a ‘bake-off’ competition, craft stalls, a brass band and children’s events.

But the big idea behind the Great Get Together is for everybody to get involved.

Organiser Clare Cummins said: “We want everybody to come along and enjoy themselves – all ages, all faiths – but we also need people to bring their own particular talents to making the day a success. So if there’s some way you can help, either by offering a skill, a service, a bit of entertainment, or by volunteering, then we’d love to hear from you.”
