THOUSANDS of people enjoyed an afternoon of festivities at Tottington’s Big Day Out.

The community get-together, held at Crompton Meadows in Tottington, was a big success as the crowds enjoyed food, drink and entertainment at the cricket ground.

There were performances on the big stage from a range of artists, and activities for children including a bouncy castle, face painting and trampolines.

Chris Hastings, aged 62, walked to the event from his home in Greenmount.

He said: “It is a really good event and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

“It is a great day but they should have had some more people staffing the bars, the queues are huge.

“Of course, the weather makes it.

“The kids are enjoying it and, at the end of the day, if they are happy then that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?”

Kirsty Goodwin, aged 28, was there with her family. She said: “It’s a brilliant day out, we come every year.

“The music is really good and it gets the community together, everyone’s enjoying themselves.”

And Bury North MP James Frith was among those at the Big Day Out on Sunday afternoon. He said: “It was a big success.

“My family and I had a lovely afternoon finishing off a birthday weekend for our youngest daughter Lizzie, aged two.

“The turnout was as brilliant as the weather with a great range of stalls, organisations, volunteers, sponsors, bars and bands on show.

“It made for a terrific day for everyone and I was proud to see such great community spirit in our town.”
