Anthony Marshall Ltd, Chartered Accountants based at 70 Market Street, Tottington, have once again trained a member of their staff to the status of a qualified Chartered Accountant. This will be the third successful member of staff to become a Chartered Accountant in the last 5 years.

This time, the member of staff is Sam Marshall, who is the son of Anthony Marshall, the owner of the company. Sam, who is a former pupil of Bury Grammar School for Boys, joined the company in 2011 as a 6th form A level student, at age 18. The prospect of a University education and degree did not appeal to him, and he sought to become a Chartered Accountant through the alternative apprenticeship route.

He spent his first 3 years at the company as an apprentice, during which he studied for the Association of Accounting Technicians qualification. He passed all these exams first time, and became AAT qualified in 2014. Because of his commitment to the company, and his willingness to learn and study hard, he was offered a 3 year training contract with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, with his employers being the authorised training office.

Sam sat each relevant exam during the 3 year training programme, and passed each exam on a first time basis. His progress was monitored, not only by the employer firm, but also by the ICAEW on an annual basis, where they would visit the firms offices and conduct their own interviews and reviews. Following the exam success, his training file has now been submitted to the ICAEW, and Sam has been invited to collect his award later this month from the Institute at an awards presentation in Manchester. He will also be invited to make application to them to become a Chartered Accountant, which will then allow him to use the designatory letters of ACA after his name.

Anthony Marshall comments that " naturally I am very proud of Sam. He has done exceptionally well over these last 6 years, and to pass every professional exam at the first attempt is an achievement in itself. He will now be trained in the next level of his professional development, which will involve client care and management, along with staff and general office management. We aim to train all our staff to the highest levels possible, and we have an incredible record of exam successes throughout all levels in the firm. This level of staff training and development is essential if we are to keep abreast of all developments, and offer our clients the highest level of technical expertise and client service."
