The walls of Walshaw Hall and The Beeches Care Home, Tottington have turned red today as residents and staff commemorate the fallen with a stunning ‘Poppy Wall’ ahead of a special Remembrance Day service.

The Poppy Wall is made up of a cascade of knitted poppies, some made locally and others sent in by volunteers from across the globe, including Canada.

The home plans to grow the wall over the coming years in attempting to emulate the famous Tower of London sea of red.

The Remembrance service starts at 3pm tonight, held by the Reverend Steve Openshaw of Christ Church, Walshaw, and will be followed by a buffet tea with entertainment from local singer Janice Lewis performing songs from the 40’s and 50’s, and a ‘Last Night of The Proms’ finale performed by Bury Music Services between 6.30 and 7.30pm.

Walshaw Hall said: "We would like to give special thanks to all those who are supporting the event and especially to the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to knit the poppies which cascade down our poppy wall."

All donations at the event will be in aid of the British Legion and for further information call 0120488 4005 or visit info@walshawhall.co.uk
