PLANS to build 16 homes in Shuttleworth have been submitted to Bury Council.

The application by DT Joseph Developments is for the site of Woodhill Farm, to the west of Whalley Road.

The plans would involve the demolition of the derelict farm buildings to make way for eleven three-bedroom, and five four-bedroom family homes.

The site itself is classed as 'other protected open land', meaning it is countryside that is not within the greenbelt but is protected from inappropriate development.

However, a new road to link the homes to Whalley Road is also proposed on greenbelt land to the north of the site.

The farm was formerly used as an abattoir and previously for agricultural purposes, and backs on to the M66.

An application for 17 homes on the site was submitted by DT Joseph Developments at the end of last year, and received 33 objections from residents.

The plans have since been revised to prevent residents using Spring Street as a rat run, a concern which was expressed by a number of those who objected.

Under the plans, collapsible bollards would be placed at the end of Spring Street, however, the road would still be accessible for existing residents of the street.
