A YOUNG Bury chef has cooked up a storm reaching the District Final of the Rotarians Young Chef Competition.

Amelia Tweddle, a Year 9 pupil from Woodhey High School, Ramsbottom, secured her place in the final after coming second in the semi-finals in Newton le Willows on December 13.

She will represent the school at the regional final in March, after a mentoring event at the Marriot Airport Hotel in Manchester on January 27.

Claire Gallie, head of food at Woodhey High School, said: "'Amelia is a very ambitious and determined cook.

"She always challenges herself to produce dishes of a very high standard and is very keen on presentation of the finished dish.

"She took advice from her mentor, Chris Haddock to develop her dishes prior to this recent heat and, alongside her skills and time management, that has obviously paid off.

"I am very proud of the progress she has made already and wish her every success in the next stage of the competition.''

Amelia is in good cooking company at Woodhey, as former pupil Stephen Lickley has made it to the final week of the BBC's Masterchef the Professionals this week.
