A FORMER Ramsbottom man is set to star in a television show about British expats tomorrow night.

Geoff Quinn, aged 55, swapped his life in the town for the south of Spain back in 2002, and will tell his story in Channel 5’s documentary series Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun.

A former Bury Council bin man, Mr Quinn lived in Crow Lane with his wife and three daughters before the family decided to emigrate.

He now lives just outside of Benidorm, and has embarked on a new career as an ice cream man.

The series charts the lives of Brits who have swapped the damp and grey of the UK for a new life in the sun.

Narrated by comedian John Thomson, tonight’s episode follows Mr Quinn as he hits Alfaz market where he hopes to take 100 Euros for the day.

However, his noisy generator causes problems and the other stallholders start to complain about the racket.

A few days later, his problems are compounded further when it blows up.

Mr Quinn still has relatives living in Bury, including two of his daughters, who have since moved back, and his mother, who lives in Winifred Street, Ramsbottom.

But he says he is loving his new life and has no plans to move back home himself.

Of his part in the show, he said: “They got in touch with me and I was working as an ice cream man.

"It involved three days of filming at the market, but I can’t really say much more about what happens yet.

"My wife is looking forward to watching it because she doesn’t know what I have said. It will be intriguing because I’m right to the point. I don’t beat about the bush.”

You can watch Bargain Loving Brits in the Sun on Channel 5 on Thursday at 8pm.
