A RAMSBOTTOM schoolgirl has donated her hair to a children's hair loss charity.

Sophie Lever, aged 10, decided to cut 12 inches from her locks and donate it to the Little Princess Trust for it to be turned into a wig.

The children’s cancer charity supplies real hair wigs to children suffering with cancer for the duration of their treatment.

They also assist with other conditions resulting in hair loss, including alopecia.

And Sophie, who lives in Lumb Carr Road, decided to do her bit by having her hair cut at Fusion Hair salon in Ramsbottom on 22 March.

Her mum Nicola said: “She had really lovely, long hair.

“She decided she wanted to do something for someone else and just before Christmas she decided she wanted to cut her hair and give it to charity. She just said it out of nowhere one day, I don’t know if she saw something on TV.”

Once the hair has been donated, it will cost the Little Princess Trust between £350 and £500 to turn it into a wig.

And Sophie even wanted to help out on that front by raising the money herself.

After reaching her target figure in a short period of time, the youngster decided to continue fundraising in order to fund even more wigs.

Her current total stands at more than £1,200 - almost enough to fund three wigs.

Sophie, who is a pupil at Hazlehurst Community Primary School, said: “I decided to do it because everyone should be happy and if they want hair then they deserve to have it.

“They have been going through a hard time having cancer and I want to make them happy.”

She is currently wearing her hair in a short bob, and is already planning to go through it all over again once her hair has grown back.

Nicola said: “When the hairdresser had finished cutting it, Sophie told her that she was going to grow it back and do it all over again.”
