A RAMSBOTTOM-based theatre group’s latest play will open this week.

The Summerseat Players performance of David Auburn’s Proof, is set to make its debut at the Theatre Royal on Tuesday.

The play, directed by Graham Humphreys, addresses a woman’s fear of mental illness and relationships between distant family members.

The narrative centres around Catherine, her connection with her sister Claire and a new relationship with one of her father’s former students, Hal.

On the night before her 25th birthday, Catherine prepares for the arrival of her sister and must contend with Hal, a scholar who is searching through her father’s numerous notebooks for new ideas and possible sparks of inspiration for new mathematical discoveries.

Catherine has inherited her late father's mathematical brilliance, but she is haunted by the fear that she might also share his debilitating mental illness.

The production will run daily at the Smithy Street theatre until Saturday, April 21.

All the performances will begin at 7.45pm each night.
