A GREENMOUNT man is set to take to the streets of London this weekend to raise awareness for a charity close to his heart.

Ryan Hallworth, of Nabbs Way, is taking part in this weekend’s London Marathon to raise money for MS-UK.

The 24-year-old who works in sales at Casting Services in Salford, says that he decided to take part for his mum, Angela, who has multiple sclerosis herself.

He said: “My mum was diagnosed about five years ago and it has affected what she can do at home.

“She has limited accessibility. It also affects her balance and nervous system quite a lot.

“She was not really a runner herself, but she was an active person.”

“I decided to do it to raise money for MS-UK and more so to raise awareness because not many people know much about the disease.”

While Mr Hallworth will run the race on his my own, family members will travel down to the capital to cheer him on.

He says he hopes to complete the 26-mile route in around four hours, although he admits the weather may play a factor in whether he achieves his goal.

Of training, he said: “It has been tough. There have been some long runs down the East Lancs Road, especially when it is cold and windy.

“All the hard work is done now, though. People say that the training is the hardest bit.”

Ryan has so far raised more than £2,000 for the charity, which provides support to multiple sclerosis sufferers.
