TOTTINGTON Primary School continues to be 'good', say inspectors.

A team from Ofsted awarded the rating after visiting the school, in Moorside Road, for a short inspection on April 24.

The school received the same rating at its last inspection back in May 2014.

Inspectors praised the leadership of the school for maintaining 'the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection'.

In a letter to the school's headteacher Stephen Holden, they said: "You are a highly effective and inspirational headteacher who demonstrates energy and utter commitment to providing the best possible education for your pupils.

"Parents and carers were almost unanimous in their positive responses to Parent View, Ofsted’s online survey, posting comments describing the school as ‘absolutely excellent’, ‘welcoming’ and ‘fun’."

They also reported that school leaders had been 'particularly successful in accelerating pupils’ progress in reading and in mathematics', and there is 'a strong culture of safeguarding in the school'.

The school were also praised for increasing pupils’ progress in writing by providing opportunities to use their writing skills in other subjects, such as history and art.

In order to improve further, they were told they must ensure they 'continue to work to secure stronger progress in writing, so that more pupils reach greater depth by the end of key stage 2', and 'build on the changes made to increase the proportion of pupils in key stage 1 who achieve greater depth in reading, in writing and in mathematics.'

Headteacher Stephen Holden said: "Everyone in the school community is delighted with this inspection letter.

"We have a strong belief that children learn best when they are happy; this inspection acknowledges and applauds that philosophy.

"I would like to thank the staff, parents and children for all their effort, warmth and positivity which makes Tottington Primary School a truly unique place to be.

"I am privileged to be the headteacher of such a creative primary school. We will now continue to provide the highest possible educational standards whilst having fun."
