A PRIMARY school has been praised by two MPs after it was named the best in the borough.
Tottington Primary School has retained the number one spot in the primary league tables in Bury, after it was revealed that almost all of its pupils were reaching expected standards in reading, writing and maths.
Recently published results showed that 100 per cent of the school's pupils reached or exceeded the expected standards in key stage 2 maths.
Standards were also met or exceeded in reading and writing, by 97 and 95 per cent of pupils respectively.
The figures place them in the top one per cent of schools in England.
The success has now earned them praise from the Minster of State for School Standards, Nick Gibb MP, and Bury North MP James Frith.
In his letter to the school's headteacher, Nick Gibb MP said: "I would like to congratulate you, your staff and your pupils on your school's very high standard of achievement in mathematics in the 2017 key stage 2 assessments.
He added: "We want to ensure that every child has the necessary fluency in Mathematics to prepare them for a successful secondary education and beyond, and your school has provided this to all your pupils.
"Thank you for your hard work and professionalism in producing such high standards."
These sentiments were echoed by James Frith MP, who passed on his congratulations and best wishes in a letter to the school.
James Frith added: "These results are a real testament to your leadership, the commitment and dedication school staff and of course the hard work of your brilliant pupils."
