VOLUNTEERS are needed to carry out a spring clean of the Kirklees Trail from Greenmount to Darlington Close.

Uniformed groups and pupils from Tottington High School will be taking part in the week-long event, while the community clean-up takes place this Saturday.

People should meet at 9.45am at the bus turnaround at the bottom of Laurel Street in Tottington to collect gloves, litter-pickers and bags. Organised by the Friends of Kirklees, the event will last until 1pm.

Kim Griffiths, local area partnership manager, said: "The Kirklees Trail is a lovely flat path to enjoy walking, jogging, or bike riding and it is a shame to see litter and flytipping along the edges of the path. With the help of volunteers we want to make a great impact on the area, and dissuade people from dropping litter again."
