A WOMAN who will complete 42 years of service with Marks and Spencer in Bury later this year will open the company’s new flagship store on The Rock today.

It will be a day to remember for Phyllis Marshall, who will cut the ribbon at Marks and Spencer’s new 48,000 sq unit in St John’s Square at 11am.

Phyllis, who lives in Holcombe Brook, began her career with the firm as a 15-year-old in September, 1968.

Throughout the intervening years, she has seen many changes including two store developments.

She said: “It’s incredible to think that I’ve been working for M&S for nearly 42 years. I was only 15 when I started working here and while so much has changed I really can’t imagine working anywhere else.”

Phyllis isn’t the only one in her family to have worked at M&S Bury. Her husband, Alan, has worked in the warehouse for 29 years and her son, Craig, worked at the store over Christmas periods.
