IT was certainly a case of “good companions” when befriending volunteers and those benefiting from their kindness enjoyed a Christmas party together.

The Jigsaw Link event was hosted by the Greater Manchester Army Cadet Force and held at their training centre in Crow Lane, Ramsbottom.

Jigsaw Link provides friendship and social activities for older people with a physical disability or sensory impairment; most of the members are aged 50 and over.

The idea is to link up a volunteer befriender with a person who has a disability. Volunteers are usually aged at least 40 or more.

Home visits are combined with a social diary, including monthly outings and lunch at Bury’s Jubilee Centre each Tuesday.

Mr Bill Barlow, Jigsaw Link co-ordinator, said: “We have around 60 volunteers and service users.

“The Christmas party included a sherry reception, a four-course meal followed by a choir and a concert and Father Christmas giving out presents.”

* Jigsaw Link is always anxious to recruit new volunteers who will be trained to become a befriender. Anyone interested should ring 0161 253 6997.
