Hague in town

5:01pm Tuesday 29th April 2008

By Peter Doherty »

WITH a day of discussions and door knocking, Bury Conservatives got their local election campaign underway with a charm offensive led by ex-party leader William Hague.

On a whistle-stop tour of the North West ahead of the May 1 elections, Mr Hague, who is MP for Richmond, Yorkshire, visited the town hall before talking to regulars and staff at the Roach Bank Inn, Croft Lane, Unsworth, and taking part in a spot of doorstep canvassing with Pilkington Park Ward councillor Michelle Wiseman.

One of the major local issues residents discussed with Mr Hague was the forthcoming closure of Croft Lane.
