A TRIP to Scotland signalled the start of a very busy weekend for one Bury youngster.

For 18-year-old Aidan Beharrell challenged himself to climb Britain’s highest mountain Ben Nevis to raise money for Elms Bank Specialist Arts College in Whitefield which he attends.

The teenager, who has autism, travelled north on Friday May 1 with his family and then tackled the 4,409ft climb the following day.

It proved to be a successful outing for Aidan, who raised £250 during his adventure before getting straight back into the school routine.

Aidan's form tutor at Elms Bank, Sita Patel, said: "We were impressed that he came into school ready to get going after such a busy weekend and he went out on his work experience placement at Asda too. His energy is impressive.

"Aidan did a really good job and we are all pleased that he made the top."

The youngster climbed the mountain with his sister Sara-Marie, who goes to Broad Oak Sports College in Bury.

She is expected to add another £100 to the fundraising total.

Aidan said: "It was an amazing experience. There was still snow on the top of the mountains and it looked really good.

"I am pleased to have done this to raise money for my school who have helped me a lot."
