A CHOCOLATIER has become the latest Whitefield business to fit a lifesaving device in its shop.

Slattery has installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for the safety of its customers.

Last week The Guide reported that Mulberry Bush children's nursery in Whitefield had installed a device on their premises.

Now the award-winning chocolatier and patissier has followed suit and installed a defibrillator from Defibshop in Manchester after staff took part in a first aid course last year.

Cardiac arrest claims the lives of about 100,000 people in the UK each year and it is hoped that the new defibrillator will provide safety for both staff and customers at the Bury New Road shop.

If used within three to five minutes of collapse a defibrillator can increase chances of survival from six to 74 per cent.

A spokesperson for Slattery, Jo Barnes, said: "We felt it was best to be pro-active and purchased one, as we have a large number of the general public and staff members on the premises at any one time."
