A PAIR of roofers have become an internet sensation, earning them the moniker of Bury’s own Ant and Dec.

By day, lifelong pals Johnny Mills and Dean Kermit repair roofs across Bury, but by night they transform into online quizmasters – and their hilarious style has whipped up fans into a frenzy.

The dynamic duo, from Whitefield, have earned a million “likes” on video streaming app Periscope in just seven weeks.

One enthusiastic fan threatened to shave off his eyebrows and his hair if they quit their popular show on the worldwide web.

The in-demand double act, known as the Quiz Brothers, showed off their skills in the real world on Monday, hosting a hit pub quiz at the Two Tubs pub in Bury town centre.

Their zany style, which includes fancy dress appearances and film star out-takes, was such a hit that the lads, who live in Sawley Avenue, Whitefield, have been asked for an encore next week.

“It’s been a crazy seven weeks, but we’ve put in a lot of work and have had success as a result,” said Dean, aged 27, who grew up in Elton, as did Johnny, aged 32.

Dean added: “We’re quiz mad and are constantly thinking up ways to improve the show.

“We’ve created a film studio at home. Two of our old housemates moved out because they were sick of hearing about the quiz.

“Our family and friends think we’re crazy, but they’re very supportive.” Periscope allows anyone to stream video from their mobile phone and viewers from around the world can watch and chat using a comment box.

Johnny added: “We were playing around with Periscope and then decided to ask trivia questions, and the reaction was good so we kept doing it.”

In the Quiz Brothers’ broadcast, they ask a question and a point is awarded to the first person who gives a correct answer. Whoever tops the leaderboard each month wins a custom Quiz Brothers T-shirt.

Johnny said: “It’s great, light-hearted fun and we always have a lot of jokes and banter.

“People tune in from all over the world. We’ve sent prizes to America and Russia among others.”

Johnny said: “We have gone from Sellotaping a phone to the bread bin in the kitchen to having our own recording space, though it’s only small — about the size of a downstairs loo.”

Dean added: “The Periscope show has really boosted my confidence. I was quite shy before we started, but now we’ve got an audience I'm more outgoing. Some call us the Bury Ant and Dec, and we’re excited about the future. It would be a dream to become television presenters.”

You can see the Quiz Brothers in action by adding @johnnymills to Periscope or at the Two Tubs on Tuesday from 7.30pm.
