A WHITEFIELD care home has been given a positive rating after a watchdog inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) sent inspectors to visit Hamilton Rest Home in Bury New Road on April 12 and published its findings on April 26.

A previous inspection of the home, which cares for up to 23 older people, was carried out on January 19 and revealed it required improvement in safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership.

The latest verdict is that the service is now safe, effective and well-led.

The new report said: "This was an unannounced inspection.

"Following the (previous) inspection, the provider sent us a plan of the actions they intended to take to meet the relevant regulations.

"We found the necessary improvements had been made."

It added: "Improvement had been made to the premises to protect people from the risk of burns from hot pipes and radiators.

"All pipework and radiators had been covered and individual risk assessments were in place to inform staff of the action they should take to protect people when moving around the building.

"The manager and provider were undertaking weekly health and safety checks to help ensure the safety of everyone who lived and worked in the home.

"Medicines were stored safely and staff responsible for administering medicines had completed refresher training."

The report said care records had been updated and staff training and supervision was good.

A spokesman for the home said: "The management at Hamilton Rest Home take very seriously the improvements suggested by CQC inspectors on their recent inspection of the home on January 19.

"New systems have been put in place and an intensive training program is being rolled out for all staff.

"We are now happy to report that all identified improvements have been made and a registered manager is in place.

"We take the happiness and safety of our residents very seriously.

"We are a happy friendly home, with a caring professional staff team."
