A SCHOOL is to benefit from a festival staged in memory of schoolgirl Olivia Campbell-Hardy despite the event making a loss.

A grassy mound at the Winfields Outdoors store in Haslingden became ‘Olivia Hill’ on Saturday for the music event, intended to raise money for Tottington High School, where Arena bomb victim Olivia was a pupil.

The Olivia Campbell-Hardy Memorial Charity Event was paid for by Winfields and profits were intended to go to the music department.

However, despite making a loss, Winfields still wanted to ensure money went to the school and so are donating £3,000.

Olivia’s mum, Charlotte Campbell, said: “It was an amazing day.

“We had a few different bands on and some of Olivia’s friends came along.”

The family fun day also included a scooter rally as Olivia’s family are keen scooterists — Olivia even rode one to a school prom.

Money from the event will go to the music department at Olivia’s old school, where it is hoped her love of music and singing can be used to inspire others.

Ms Campbell said: “The organiser was Chris Gibson and he did us really proud. It is the first event on this scale he’s ever done.”

Mr Gibson, the maintenance manager at Winfields Outdoors’ Hazel Mill store said: “It went well.

“We had more than 1,000 people there and because the weather was good they stuck around all day. It really was a great success.”

Those who attended were able to see various musical and dance performances, including a special one featuring Olivia’s boyfriend, Lewis Brierley, who played guitar with a band from the school.

Ms Campbell said: “Lewis took his own time during the summer to get the kids together and practice with them to bring it all

together.”
