RE Bury Times of March 8 and the £500,000 house bought by Bury Council and now back on the market and currently under offer.

A 'sold' sign was on the board on March 7 so it is very strange that a house for sale costing £499,950 should be sold so quickly when houses costing far less are on the market for months/years. Incidentally, the council got a grant of £400,000 from the Government for the outreach project. Does it have to re-pay it?

The council is quick to put council tax up by 6 and waste the rate payers' money on property that isn't suitable for the purpose it was bought for, and yet it knocks down Radcliffe Baths and also Radcliffe Civic Hall and closes libraries and community centres which the people used.

If the council wants to save money, it could get rid of all the executive directors and assistants and then there would be plenty of money for social care and all the other activities that need it without increasing the rates, which could be decreased instead.
