IT was nice to see that the reports at the weekend that Ramsbottom was one of the best places in the North West to live.

My early recollection of living in Ramsbottom was when shops closed at lunch time on a Wednesday and did the same on a Saturday.

You would hardly see one person in town after 1pm on Saturdays, none of the buildings had been stone cleaned and it was like a ghost town.

The progress over the years has been immense.

I would like to think that I had played a small part in that, former Cllr Brian Rigby also worked very hard alongside me to try to improve things.

It would be remiss of me not to mention a number of Bury Council employees who, without their hard work, many things would not have come to fruition. Let’s hope it is upwards and onwards for the town in future.
