I READ that the Bury Labour Party chose Church Ward to launch its local election campaign.

If I understand it right, members were charged £35 to eat a meal while listening to policies being presented.

I trust that as they were in Church Ward, they heard that Bury Council under Labour control would be finally removing the unpopular bus lane in Bolton Road.

I hope they were also advised that the Central Library (which serves Church Ward) would be restored to something like its former status with its reference library and reading space replacing the white elephant of a sculpture centre.

Perhaps they also heard that we would finally be drawing down some of the £10 million borrowing facility agreed by full council last year specifically to repair some of the many pot holes in the town, including the highways of Church Ward.

As yet, after one year, this money has not been touched.
