CHINA : YEAR 7 CROSS-CURRICULAR THEME

3:32pm Wednesday 19th March 2008

By Community reporter at Bury C of E High School »

All Year 7 lessons in the first two weeks of this half term had the common theme of China. This common teaching and learning approach allowed all departments to deliver lessons based around the various aspects of Chinese life and culture. The Technology departments concentrated on Chinese food and inventions such as kites, whilst the Science department investigated the science of earthquakes and hot air balloons. Humanities subjects examined Human Rights in China, a number of other disciplines preferred to base their week on the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

A lot of the material produced by the pupils has been displayed around school. Two of the items in the end of term music concert tonight (19th March) have been produced as a direct result of the work carried out by Year 7. Pupils will perform a short play based on The Kite Rider' a novel set in C13th China. A Chinese buffet will be provided before the concert so that parents and pupils can experience a little taste of China.
