ON to a real ‘banker’. That’s three Bury Grammar School pupils who have joined the Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) commercial office as part of a summer employment initiative between the bank and the schools.

The scheme has been designed for sixth formers interested in pursuing a banking and finance career. The pupils, Aadhithya Anbanhan, Ciaran McCaughey and Joseph Dunleavy, have joined RBS as full members of the commercial banking team and are being paid a salary for their month-long stay.

As part of the scheme, the pupils had to formally apply for one of the positions and were interviewed by a panel of bank staff. They will sit alongside relationship and portfolio managers and will be given full exposure to the day to day workings of a commercial banking centre.

Francine Healey, development officer for Bury Grammar Schools, said: “The scheme has been designed to be as realistic as possible and will provide our pupils with a clear insight into the world of banking. The three successful students will have the first taste of life in the commercial world and I’m sure this will provide them with a good understanding of what to expect when they finish their studies.”

Anne Johnson, relationship manager for RBS in Bury, commented: “We enjoy an excellent relationship with Bury Grammar Schools and this initiative takes us a step further than the standard work experience placement.

“The successful pupils will join the commercial banking centre as full members of our team.”
