PUPILS at a Bury school proved they had the right ‘material’ to create music from the most unlikely of sources.
Around 150 youngsters used plastic piping, oil drums and even a shopping trolley to illustrate that recycled goods can take the place of traditional musical instruments.
Bury Church of England High School’s Year 7 pupils took part in workshops which were held by Weapons of Sound, a group which makes music out of recycled materials.
Assistant head teacher, Brian Taylor said: “We held a cross curricular activity date which involved the music and geography departments combining to organise the workshops.
“The geography aspect emphasised recycling and sustainability of our planet. Following the event, the youngsters themselves will design some musical instruments of their own.”
Weapons of Sound have performed at the Champions League Final in Paris, a Queen’s Jubilee party and the opening of the Commonwealth Games.
