BURY College is just two months away from kicking off its brand new £2 million centre dedicated to football.

National company PlayFootball will run the site at the college, in Market Street, with six floodlit five-a-side pitches and two large floodlit training pitches.

The centre will open in June and consists of state-of-the-art pitches with new-generation rubber crumb playing surfaces, as used by clubs including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Students at the college will be able to use the new facilities during the day, but they will be open to the community at other times.

It will offer leagues for adults, students and juniors which are affiliated to the Football Association. There will be pitches for training and private hire, tournaments, and children's parties. The site will also include a sports bar.

PlayFootball is now looking for teams across the borough to sign up to use the centre.

General manager Adam Hanford said: "I believe the centre will quickly become the premier site in Bury. There's nothing else like this in the town.

"Five-a-side football is now recognised by the FA as its own sport and is growing faster than 11-a-side. The game is a lot quicker and with our unique rebound boards and roof nets, the ball never goes out of play."
