BURY Grammar School Boys came under the spotlight when it hosted a BBC1 television programme.

For The Big Questions, presented by Nicky Campbell, was broadcast live from the Tenterden Street school at 10am on Sunday.

The show featured debates about the role of fathers, the British Empire, and the “screen generation” - young people shaped by video games, the internet, and television.

They were discussed by the Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin, a Hackney vicar and the Queen’s chaplain, Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra, an imam and member of the Muslim Council of Britain, Bidisha, a novelist and broadcaster, and journalist Dame Ann Leslie.

Production company Mentorn Media arrived at the school on Saturday to set up for the live broadcast.

They were assisted by several pupils who gained work experience by acting as runners.

Deputy headteacher David Armsbey said: “The production company approached us a little while ago looking for somewhere to film in Bury and they decided to come here. We basically just provided the room, but some of the boys did get involved by doing work experience.

“They hope to come back to the school to film three more shows in May, July and October.”
