VINTAGE EXTRAVAGANZA.
Mr Alan Clayton, the proud owner of a 1936 Railton 11 Drophead car, made the journey into Tottington High School on March 11 in order to help us to publicise our Vintage Extravaganza which will be held in the school grounds on Sunday, April 27 2008. The gates will be open between 10am and 4pm and we do hope that you will join us - a good day is certainly guaranteed!
Alan has lovingly restored this vehicle over the past four and a half years. The car was located on the Isle of Man, having languished for 35 years on the island, since the end of the Second World War. The Railton's original owner went out to fight in the world conflict and unfortunately did not return. Alan has found the restoration hard work, but very worthwhile. We were very grateful to Mr Clayton for sparing the time to help us in this way and we look forward to welcoming him in sunny (we hope) April!
The event is gearing up to be quite a spectacle, with our star attraction - a 35 foot Mortier Dance Organ. As well as vintage and classic cars, we have London Buses (Routemasters), Vintage Fire Engines, and military vehicles. There is a craft fayre and the caring organisations are in attendance too. We have musical entertainment, refreshments and a barbecue to sustain the inner man. A licensed bar will be on site too.
Entertainment is provided by fairground rides, paint balling, wall climbing, arcade games, sumo wrestling and a giant slide, to name but a few. We have a military historian, Jason King, joining us for the day and he will be bringing his extensive collection of military artefacts. Students will be modelling some of the uniforms and there will be an opportunity of having your photograph taken with some of these objects.
Entry is by programme, which will be on sale soon, but entry can be paid on the gate; £2 for adults and £1 concessions. A portion of the proceeds of the sale will go to Jigsaw. This charity was chosen by our student council, and of its members, Ben Valentine (year 9) and Holly Collins (year 10) were in attendance with Hannah Gayne, (year 11) who is a member of Jigsaw and who has raised monies in the past for the organisation.
