On Friday 25 January 2008 Tottington High School entered 2 teams in the Under 13's football competition. The teams comprised of years 7 and year 8 students. Our school has entered this competition every year and won the title three years ago and were runners up last year.
Team A won all 3 of their games in their pool, beating Philips High (1-0), Woodhey HS (1-0) and Broadoak HS (4-0), putting them into the semi final of the competition.
Team B had some tough opposition, and lost to St Gabriel's (2-0), Elton HS (1-0) and drew (0-0) with Parrenthorn HS.
The "A" team played played St Gabriel's HS in the semi final and won 1-0 in a nail biting game, with some fantastic saves from our goalkeeper, Megan Brenchley (year8) The final was played against Woodhey HS "A" team, who had already won the Bury Schools 7 aside title in November 2007. The game was played 5 minutes each way and after the first half there had been ample opportunity for both teams to score, although, due to good goalkeeping from both sides, the score remained 0-0.
Tottington High School went into the second half in full flow, with a fine display of accurate passing between the talented Megan Fielding, 8m, and Hannah Bostock, 8s, which led to the winning goal, with a fantastic strike by Lizzie Evans, 7y. Sophie McIntosh, 8o, Rebecca Thompson, 7y and Zoe Wetherall, 7y, performing vital tackles. With strong defending at the back, THS kept their 1-0 lead until the final whistle, making them Champions of the U13's Cup.
They will now represent Bury in the finals to be held at Hopwood Hall College.
