Harwood and St Anne's Old Links Junior, Amelia Taylor, won the under 14 year old girls US Kids European Championship in Gullane, Scotland 26-28 May 2009. She won the scratch event over three rounds with gross scores of 82-82-84 (total 248) on Gullane number 2 course. American Jacqueline Eleey finished second 9 shots back. By becoming the European Champion Amelia qualified to play for Europe in the Van Horn Cup on 29 May 2009 against the international team, which was played on Gullane number 1 course.

This was a Ryder Cup style event with 2 players from each age group representing either Europe or the Internationals. Amelia halved the match with her European playing partner Danielle Ferry from Gilford to help the European team gain victory over the International Team. Each member of the winning European team received a Quaker bowl as a memento of the event. The actual Van Horn Trophy will remain with the European Captain, Alasdair Good, professional at Gullane Golf Club.
