AS a nation we are quick to complain about the NHS, long waiting times, dirty hospitals, uncaring staff and negligence etc. Sometimes justifiably so.
SHAW The family of the late JAMES (JIM) SHAW, would like to thank everyone for their kindness, cards, messages and donations. Also sincere thanks to Dr Phizacklea and Fairfield Surgery, The District Nurses, The Macmillan Nurses, Furness General Hospital, and especially the very caring girls from Lakeland Care. To Reverend George Wilson and Anthony Clarke for their time and care with the funeral arrangements.
I WAS very perplexed to read that mothers, (the general public), will not have a say on the future of maternity services at Fairfield General Hospital. As a mother who has given birth to three children at the unit, I cannot praise it enough. In fact, I owe my life and that of one of my son’s to the unit and its staff. On October 29, 2009, I suffered a placental abruption at home, and was rushed by ambulance to the unit; and an emergency caesarean section was performed. Thankfully, and against all odds, both myself and my son survived. As a nursing sister within the trust, with a husband who is a radiographer, we were both well aware of the seriousness of my condition and the fatal consequences it could have had for both mother and baby. I honestly believe that the quick and precise intervention of both the paramedic, midwifery and surgical team, without doubt, turned the odds in our favour; and without them, I, my son or both of us would have died.
