BURY were denied all three points by a last-minute Adam Le Fondre penalty at Gigg Lane.
In what was an incredible climax to the game, the Rochdale striker kept his cool to slot away a spot kick awarded by referee Michael Jones for a foul by Efe Sodje on Gary Jones.
But there was plenty more to come from a derby that never failed to deliver. Rene Howe had the ball in the net for Rochdale after a clash between Sodje and Jim Provett left the Bury keeper prostrate on the floor. He was carried off the field at the final whistle by goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler and physio Alan Bent.

And there was even time for three Shakers efforts to be scrambled off the line in the final throes - as Andy Bishop and Adams looked for the killer goal.
Adams looked to have sealed the points when he lashed home his 13th goal of the season on 55 minutes against the club who tried to sign him in February.
It looked for a long time to be enough to settle a stormy but entertaining game, watched by a season-best crowd of 6,271 supporters.
After Nathan Stanton was shown a straight red in the first half for a professional foul on Elliott Bennett, Ben Futcher followed suit when he was shown a second yellow 13 minutes before the end following a clash off-the-ball with Rory McCardle.
That also sparked some ugly scenes off the pitch, when after Futcher had a second argument with McCardle, Rochdale assistant Dave Flitcroft was involved in some angry exchanges with Shakers goalkeeping coach, Neil Cutler.
Bury failed to press home their advantage, and paid the ultimate price when referee Jones, on his linesman's advice, gave a penalty in the final minute.
