BURY have said they will fully co-operate with the Football Association if they choose to launch an official investigation into unusual betting activity before Saturday's 2-0 victory at Accrington Stanley.

The club have kept quiet on advice from their legal representatives but made a short statement yesterday in light of "probable" intervention from Lancaster Gate.

Bookmakers including William Hill and Coral stopped taking bets on the game on Friday evening and Betfair reported that £281,000 had been placed - a figure more than 14 times greater than that gambled on other games in League Two.

The club statement read: "It is probable that the FA will launch their own investigation into the reported unusual betting activity' that took place before the game against Accrington Stanley.

"If this is the case, then Bury Football Club will fully co-operate with any investigation. The club will not make any further comments until any investigation is concluded."

Accrington have also said they would not stand in the way of any investigation.

Chief executive Rob Heys vowed the club will "investigate it fully."

"At this moment in time we have no evidence to suggest any wrongdoing," he said. "We are going to investigate it fully and any wrongdoing will be severely dealt with.

"Nobody has confirmed to the club anything that has happened but we would welcome any further information."
