MORECAMBE 2, SHAKERS 0: The ghosts of players past came back to haunt Bury boss Chris Casper and ruin his side's dreams of Wembley.
Former loanee Matthew Blinkhorn and Gigg Lane favourite Jon Newby scored the goals which knocked Bury out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the area semi-final.
The Shakers struggled to adapt to the attrocious conditions, and their inability to clear their lines almost gave Morecambe the lead on eight minutes when Stuart Drummond hit the post which proved only temporary relief for Bury as Garry Thompson skipped around Colin Woodthorpe and crossed for Blinkhorn to head home.

It could have been worse when Mike Twiss's dipping free kick was well dealt with by keeper, Jim Provett, but the ball went to Simon Grand who could only hit the keeper.
The Shakers gradually improved and shortly after the restart Hurst clipped the top of the bar when he headed on Brian Barry-Murphy's free kick.
Nicky Adams then had a threatening left-footed shot saved at the second attempt by Scott Loach.
As the Shakers pushed forward, they left themselves susceptible to the break, and Twiss nearly capitalised when he went past Andy Parrish before smashing a cross that shaved the angle of post and bar.
With five minutes remaining, half the ground thought substitute Andy Mangan had put the ball in the back of the net when Barry-Murphy's free-kick reached him at the far post. But with players lining up to convert the chance, Mangan stabbed the ball into the side netting.
The Shakers paid the ultimate price when Newby cut inside Woodthorpe and Provett, to slide the ball home.
