BURY are poised to swoop for Morecambe striker Michael Twiss.

The 30-year-old former Manchester United trainee is unsettled at Christie Park and Shakers boss Alan Knill has confirmed he has spoken with the player about a move to Gigg Lane.

Twiss, who lives close to Bury, scored against the Shakers last season and has a scoring ratio of one goal in every three games for the Shrimps.

“I have spoken to (Morecambe manager) Sammy McIlroy and with the player, but that is as far as it has gone so far,” said Knill. “It’s not a definite, but we are certainly having a look at Michael and we might speak with Sammy again.”

And McIlroy has admitted Twiss would be happy to link up with the Shakers. He said: “I told Michael about Bury’s interest and he seemed very keen. He lives two minutes away from Gigg Lane and I’m sure that will be something that will interest him.”

Knill is keen to bring in at least one new striker before the season kicks-off on August 9, but he is yet to decide on the futures of a quartet of trialists.

Midfielders Michael Jones, Danny Racchi and Paul Tierney have all impressed, while forward Phil Marsh has scored three goals in four games in pre-season.

“I have told them all I want to see them a bit more and they are happy with that,” said Knill. “They have all done well, and the fact they want to stay here shows we are doing something right. We should have Elliott Bennett joining us on loan next week, and we’re closing in on another loan signing.”

One player leaving the club is striker Domaine Rouse, who has joined Cambridge United for 10 days with a view to a loan deal.

Bury continue their preparations with the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, followed by Sheffield United three days later.
